Xi Jinping is a Chinese politician. He has served as General Secretary of the Chinese Communist Party, since 15 November, 2012, and President of the People’s Republic of China, since 14 March, 2013, as well as, as Chairman of the Central Military Commission, since 15 November, 2012 (Party) and 14 March, 2013 (State). He was previously First Secretary of Secretariat of the Chinese Communist Party, from 22 October, 2007 to 15 November, 2012, and Vice President of the People’s Republic of China, from 15 March, 2008 to 14 March, 2013.

Xi is the son of Qi Xin and Xi Zhongxun, a Communist revolutionary figure. His father was Head of the Propaganda Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, from January 1953 to July 1954, Secretary-General of the State Council, from September 1954 to January 1965, and Vice-Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress, from 10 September, 1980 to 15 March, 1983, and again, from 25 March, 1988 to 15 March, 1993. His father was from a land-owning family, in rural Fuping County, Shaanxi. His mother is from Gaoyang County, Hebei. His sister is businessperson Qi Qiaoqiao.

Xi is married to contemporary folk singer Peng Liyuan, with whom he has a daughter, Xi Mingze.

Xi can trace his patrilineal descent from Xiying in Dengzhou, Henan.

Xi’s paternal grandfather was named Xi Zongde (the son of Xi Yongsheng). Xi Yongsheng was the son of Xi Yuce.

Xi’s paternal grandmother was named Chai Caihua.

Xi’s maternal grandfather was named Qi Houzhi (齐厚之). Qi was head of the law bureau in the Nationalist government’s Third Army during the Northern Expedition.

Xi’s maternal grandmother was named Deng Yuezhen.
