The latest basketball star to dip his toes in a different discipline was Jamal Murray. The 2023 NBA champion decided to jump in the ring with non-other than UFC star Alexander Volkanovski.
A video of the two having a light-hearted scrap in the ring has surfaced on social media. In fact, in the clip, 'Volk' was challenged to choke out the NBA player in under a minute.
Murray put up a good fight
The two scrambled with each other and after Murray managed to fend off the professional fighter, the inevitable happened. Volkanoviski managed to wrap his arms around the player's neck just and successfully execute the choke hold just before the time ran out.
Martial arts and disciplines like the UFC are becoming increasingly popular amongst other pro athletes who are incorporating it into their training to improve conditioning and strength. It's likely this won't be the last time Murray gets in the ring.
