On June 28, The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce announced the Walk of Fame Class of 2017 through a live stream. Mexican music legend Selena Quintanilla Perez was one of the nominees on the list.
Selena was born and raised in Texas and started singing as early as the age six. Selena would perform with her brother, A.B, and her sister Suzette in their parent’s restaurant. Selena soon became one of the top Latino artists in both Mexico and the U.S. She became known as the Queen of Tejano music. Now, Selena will be honored with her very own star, more than two decades after her death on March 31, 1995.
Television producer Vin di Bona, from the Walk of Fame Selection Committee, said “The Committee looked carefully at each nominee and we feel that we have selected a great group of talent that will appeal to the tastes of many fans around the world.”
Selena’s sister, Suzette Quintanilla Arriaga, told Caller Times, “Myself and my family are very excited about it.” She added, “We’re honored that people are still remembering her 21 years (after her death).”
